An Artist On the Rise: Phil Jenius' Journey

September 17, 20232 min read

From the moment he heard Kid Cudi’s music, Phil Jenius’s life changed. Music had always been a part of his life as a way to release from the daily monotony and express himself, but Kid Cudi’s vulnerability inspired something new. He began the journey to learn and connect on his own, starting with flutes in grade school and eventually progressing to piano and guitar. His music, which fuses hip hop and R&B with a good vibe, has earned him a loyal and eclectic fan base.

Phil’s artist name comes from an old classmate who heard some of the topics he discussed when he was high and said “bro, you’re a genius.” From there, Phil has been on a mission to be a student of the music game, learning and understanding the history of music and old influences like Clarence Avant. This knowledge has helped him to evolve his style and become more confident in his craft.

Phil’s creative process typically starts with him vibing over beats and skatting until he captures a flow and melody for the hook. He loves to create but also enjoys listening to music, and when it comes to live performances, Phil has the most fun on stage. He’s experienced the rush of performing for an audience of 150, and looks forward to a day when he can perform for even bigger crowds.

When asked what he enjoys most about being an artist, Phil says it’s the freedom to just be himself and express it for the world while others vibe with him. He’s able to be vulnerable and share his life lessons through his music, and his fans love him for it.

Phil’s plans for the coming months include dropping a project titled “Seasons” on October 13th, getting more live performances in, and continuing to grow his fan base by putting out more content and being relatable. He also has some artistic collaborations in the works.

When giving advice to young musicians, Phil emphasizes the importance of being patient with yourself, learning the fundamentals of your craft, and taking your time to enjoy the journey.

Phil Jenius is an artist on the rise and he’s just getting started. You can find his music on Spotify and contact him on Instagram. He hopes to bless his fans and teach them lessons through his music, so don’t miss out!
