King Cali Crypto Interview

February 01, 20236 min read

Q: What was the role of music in the early years of your life?

Shit, where do I begin… From the windup box with a teddy bear on it that was played for me to go to sleep to Sade being played by my dad to… make me go to sleep lol. I sleep a lot lol

Q: Are you from a musical or artistic family?

To an extent. My dad used to mix a little bit and would edit music into home videos for friends and family. No real vocal artists or producers though.

Q: Who inspired you to be a part of the music industry?

I think it was just the feeling that creating gave to me. I started by playing the guitar but slowly got tired of being the only person in the band so I started making beats. Slowly after i started writing to those beats and here I am lol.

Q: How did you learn to sing/write/play?

Self taught on the guitar by learning how to read music. Self taught on making beats by mimicking others beats to learn what sounded nice together. Self taught on how to rap… so self taught lol

Q: What was your first music teacher like?

Since I taught myself I would say he was a dreamer. Remember, I sleep alot lol.

Q: What was the first instrument you learned to play?

Guitar, Fender Strat

Q: What is the story behind your band/artist name?

I was first named Bones by the homies I grew up with for being both skinny but also leaving a recording session to have sex in the laundry room lol. King Cali Crypto came from living in Cali, Being a king, and making money in crypto.

Q: What was the first concert that you ever went to?

Does disney on ice count? lol

Q: How could you describe your music?

Gangster underground music but not so gangster? Idk lol.Too hard for radio and too hot for TV.

Q: Describe your creative process?

I get drunk until I reach a part of me I couldn't access otherwise and just start writing. I also record drunk or under the influence.

Q: What is your main inspiration?

Personal experience and other lyricsts.

Q: What musician/artist do you admire the most?

The list is very long but I would say Eminem as my top favorite. A few honorable mentions are J.Cole, DMX and The Holdup.

Q: What is one message you would like to give to your fans?

FTW, Think less,Do More, and Don't be a bitch.

Q: How would you describe your fans?

Mentally ill and easily impressed lol jk. I love all 5 of yall.

Q: Do you create for yourself or for your fans?

A little bit of both. But it's all me on the record.I hope people can relate and also see between the thin line of reality vs creativity.

Q: Do you prefer to listen to music or create it?

Boff. Sometimes I hate making music lol. Sometimes I irk myself when I hear myself. Just don't let me know. I have a fragile ego and couldn't take im not my own fan.

Q: Did your style evolve since the beginning of your career?

Very much so. I only recently found my voice. I think lol.

Q: Who do you see as your main competitor?

Rehab

Q: Would you agree that it is very important to learn, study and understand old music and music history?

NO. I'm a firm believer to just create. If you look back you will end up like everyone else doing their own covers of old songs. Respect the past but create the now to lay brick for the future.

Q: If you could have a musician tag along with you on tour for one month , who would you choose?

Tag along with me??? Or tag along with someone lol. Eminem off top. Maybe tech nine.

Q: What do you enjoy most about being an artist?

Creating something out of thin air.

Q: What skills are most useful in the music industry?

The ability to invest in yourself.

Q: How do you handle frequent travels and being away from home for long periods of time?

I haven't toured for a very long time and I won't unless I was promised serious money.

Q: How do you handle working evenings and nights?

I don't. I go crazy holmes. Is Jameson an answer?

Q: Have you ever played at a wedding or public party?

Wedding no lol. If you're asking if ive done a concert… yes many times. Just never a free pop in the middle of public. Im not meant for that shit.

Q: When was the last time you performed in front of a huge audience?

A long long time ago in a galaxy far far away.

Q: Tell me about your best performance?
