The Interview

Q: What was the role of music in the early years of your life?

I started playing the piano in the early years of childhood. But it didn't really spark for me until I listened to The Beach Boys. Their vocal harmony got me super passionate for theory, harmony, and production.

Q: Are you from a musical or artistic family?

I am the only musical person in my family. At least a serious musician. Other than that, I have some family members that can carry a tune.

Q: Who inspired you to be a part of the music industry?

The Beach Boys, my grandfathers on both my Mother's side and my Father's side, they are the ones who lit the flame of music and creativity.

Q: How did you learn to sing/write/play?

PRACTICE. The more I wrote and played, the better I got, and the more fun it got to create. I'm self-taught in all the instruments I play.

Q: What was your first music teacher like?

I am my own music teacher. I've always been very self-motivated to grow my musicianship. I always strive to be better than I was yesterday.

Q: What was the first instrument you learned to play?

They say you never forget your first, and once I played my first chord on the piano, it was OVER.

Q: What is the story behind your band/artist name?

Staying true to myself is important, so I kept my actual name.

Q: What was the first concert that you ever went to?

I went to a real Beach Boys concert in the early 2000s with my Grandfather.

Q: How could you describe your music?

I would describe it as experimental, filled to the brim with harmonies, key changes, etc. The most fun I have is when I get to break the rules of the norms of music theory.

Q: Describe your creative process?

I sit down at my piano, come up with a chord progression based on my mood in the moment. But once I'm writing, I always try to write the opposite of what I feel. Then it's time for the vocal harmonies, which are mostly improvised in the moment during the recording process.

Q: What is your main inspiration?

I am inspired by my friend and fellow artist, Ju5t Jake (Jacob Carter). His musicianship and writing abilities motivate me to keep working, and keep creating.

Q: What musician/artist do you admire the most?

Jacob Collier, Flipturn, and Lizzy McAlpine are my most admired artists.

Q: What is one message you would like to give to your fans?

There is creativity in everything you do. And there's music in the simplest of places.

Q: How would you describe your fans?

A lot of my fans are fellow musicians, I noticed. Which is awesome and motivates me to create the best project I can.

Q: Do you create for yourself or for your fans?

I create for myself for the most part, but the fans are the motivation.

Q: Do you prefer to listen to music or create it?

I prefer to create music. But there is nothing like listening to your favorite song or artist.

Q: Did your style evolve since the beginning of your career?

My style is always evolving. It changes as I change, moves as I move, gives off emotions that I have each day.

Q: Who do you see as your main competitor?

I am my own competitor. To me, I need to get better than myself, working to improve in all things.

Q: Would you agree that it is very important to learn, study and understand old music and

music history?

It's definitely important to me. I take a lot of inspiration from older music. I love to find ways to create an older song with a more modern sound.

Q: If you could have a musician tag along with you on tour for one month , who would you

choose?

I would absolutely choose Jacob Collier.

Q: What do you enjoy most about being an artist?

I most enjoy the ability to show off my craft to other people than myself. Getting to show people what I love to do.

Q: What skills are most useful in the music industry?

Networking, Presence, and your overall attitude are the most useful skills you can use in this industry. You are the number one tool to succeed.

Q: How do you handle frequent travels and being away from home for long periods of time?

Staying in touch with my family and friends through the phone is important when I am far away. Especially when I am across multiple states.

Q: How do you handle working evenings and nights?

I thrive during the night. So working late, is the best time for me to be productive.

Q: When was the last time you performed in front of a huge audience?

I will be having some performances and shows coming up really soon.

Q: Tell me about your best performance?

The best performance is the next one. But the most memorable one has to be one of my NYC shows. The energy there is incredible.

Q: . Tell me about your worst performance?

There can be some bad days. It's usually when I am worn out from the day before, or if I am sick. Those things can affect my performance for sure.

Q: Do you experience stress before going on stage?

I experience a good type of stress before stepping onstage. The nerves are the best part, because that means I care about the performance and the audience.

Q: What would you do if the audience looked bored during your performance?

I would definitely switch it up and improvise something creative and funky. Get everyone's feet moving. Then, I interact with the audience.

Q: How do you energize the audience?

The moment I walk onstage, I make sure I am the most energetic person in the room. This makes the crowd feel more comfortable to be free for the night and just let go.

Q: What is the biggest problem you have encountered in the journey of music?

The biggest problem I have faced in music so far has to be finding the right management. Which I know, some people can relate to.

Q: If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

I wouldn't change a thing. The music industry is supposed to be challenging. That's what motivates you to get better.

Q: Have you ever participated in any music competition?

I have participated in a competition a few years ago called, "Path to Fame." I made it to the final round.

Q: What are your plans for the coming months?

Create, Create, Create.

Q: Do you have any artistic collaboration plans?

I always love collaborating with my guy Ju5t Jake

Q: What does your typical day look like?

Wake up, get some exercise, create, work, create, repeat.

Q: How do you think social media has changed the music industry?

Especially with TikTok, there are more opportunities to get heard. Social media has changed the game when it comes to scouting, labels, streams, etc.

Q: What does your typical weekend look like?

My weekend always consists of, grabbing some drinks and getting to work on my music, or mixing other's music.

Q: How do you balance the music and your other obligations-school, family, etc?

It's all pretty well balanced. My family supports my music career, so they understand if I can't always be there.

Q: What is the best gig you’ve ever played?

The music competition a few years back that I participated in was filled with thousands of people.

Q: What is the saddest song you've ever heard?

The song "Daddy" by Coldplay is super sad.

Q: What are your interests outside of music?

Video content and travel are my other interests.
